Breast Cancer Awareness 2015

The Grout Medic Pledges Funds from Every October Sale to Support Breast Cancer Research

Sixteen Grout Medic locations across the country will participate in a fundraising drive coinciding with National BreastGrout Medic Breast Cancer Awareness Program Cancer Awareness Month.

October 1, 2015 — At sixteen participating Grout Medic locations, each job in October will be an opportunity to do what they do best while also supporting a great cause. Throughout this month, every grout and tile cleaning, repair, sealing, color sealing, or tile replacement job booked at the participating locations will generate $5 in funding for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

Throughout National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Grout Medic team also will wear special pink shirts in the hopes of increasing their fundraising efforts and raising awareness.

This marks the third year in a row that the Grout Medic franchise has run a fundraiser in October to support the cause of breast cancer research. Last year’s efforts were highly successful in raising money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This year, participating locations grew from ten to sixteen!

The participating owners and locations are:

Harold Barrios – Southern Denver/Denver Metro, CO
Steve Steffey – El Paso County, CO
Suzanne Minnich – West Columbus, OH
Cesar Gonzalez – Northeast Tarrant County, TX

The BCRF has been recognized as one of the most fiscally responsible charities in the United States. The foundation has been found to directly use $0.91 of every dollar received to forward breast cancer awareness and research.

Build-A-Bike 2014

build-a-bike-2014Grout Medic hosted its first Build-A-Bike. We were placed on teams of 4 and answered jeopardy style trivia questions in order to receive parts of a disassembled child’s bike. Once we had all the pieces it was a race to the finish to see who could assemble the bike first. It was a hotly contested race with accusations of pedal stealing, hiding of parts and hoarding of the tire pump, however, when it was all said and done the real winners were the 5 children from Respite Care of San Antonio. This organization is a refuge for abused and special needs children. Their faces lit up as soon as they entered the room and they immediately hopped on the bikes and raced around. It’s nice to know we had a hand in putting a smile on those kids’ faces.

Given that the Grout Medic’s customer base is made up primarily of women, the company decided it wanted to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place each October. Nearly everyone knows someone—family, friends, or coworkers—who has been touched by breast cancer, and the team at the Grout Medic is no exception.

This year’s partnership with the BCRF was a huge success. Thank you to all of our franchisees that participated. $5 dollars of every job booked in October by The Grout Medic went towards breast cancer research. We are honored to participate in this event and look forward to increasing our fundraising goals yearly.

Habitat for Humanity Project

b2ap3_thumbnail_Habitat-For-Humanity-Project-1.pngNAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS—Earlier this month, Ron Bandyk, owner of the Grout Medic of West/Southwest Chicagoland, was one of 20 participants on a weeklong trip to Clarksdale, MS to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. For the fourth year running, Ron and his sons made the 600 mile trip down to Clarksdale, MS into the heart of the famous Delta region in northwestern Mississippi. Long recognized as one of America’s most fertile cotton-producing areas, it is also one of America’s poorest regions. As of 2009, half of the children under 18 live in poverty and the unemployment rate has grown to 11.6 percent.

This year, the Chicagoland team was charged with finishing up a home that they began last summer.  Among other tasks completed, Ron, his son who is working for The Grout Medic this summer and others on the trip, installed a ceramic tile floor in the home as one of the final touches.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Habitat-For-Humanity-Project-2.png“I think it’s important that we all give back and help those in need and I’ve found that Habitat for Humanity is a great way to support these efforts,” said Bandyk.

After discussing ways franchisees could “give back” to their communities at the Grout Medic Annual Meeting, Bandyk thought that supporting Habitat for Humanity would be a good way to give back while doing something The Grout Medic specializes in — home repair.

“It was wonderful to be able to use our skills in laying a ceramic tile floor to support this project,” said Bandyk.
