What happens if grout sealer dries on tile?

Grout sealer is formulated to penetrate the pores of your tile grout to create a protective shield.

Sealing grout is an essential step in protecting your tiled surface from water and contaminant penetration. Many home and business owners choose to perform this task on their own. It is not uncommon for grout sealer to drip or be brushed onto your tile during application. Grout sealer will not damage porcelain tile. However, if you do not want a glossy appearance, it is necessary to wipe wayward grout sealant as it is applied to grout lines. That is why we always recommend hiring a grout sealing company. Grout and tile professionals will be better able to ensure that your tile is kept free of grout sealant.

What happens if grout sealer dries on tile?

If grout sealant dries on tile, it can be removed.

If some of your porcelain or ceramic tiles look shiny in some areas after sealing your grout, sealant has dried on them. This is something you can choose to live with until the sealant ages and begins to fade over time. However, if you wish to remove it, a stripping agent can be used to get the job done. As with typical chemical strippers, much care must be taken to perform the task, so that tile does not become damaged. Use only products that are purported to be safe for the type of tile you have, and follow instructions explicitly.

Grout Sealer and Natural Stone Tile

Natural tile, such as marble and slate, might require sealing along with your grout. This is because natural stone is porous, and susceptible to stain penetration. The same deep-penetrating sealant used on grout is also formulated to seal natural stone tile.

Should marble shower tile be sealed?

It is usually advisable to seal your new grout and natural stone tile after cleaning or a brand-new installation. However, if you have a marble shower tile, you may want to forego sealing your tile, as to not seal in moisture that could eventually damage the marble. It is still recommended to seal your grout in these cases. Your tile professional will know more about your specific installation, and can recommend whether your marble tile should also be sealed.
